From his home base in France, Israeli-born Amit Weisberger has been the driving force behind a number of unusually creative projects that explore the history of Yiddish culture and its meaning for us today. An outstanding example is the Beigale Orkestra. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Beigale Orkestra brings the Golden Age of Klezmer Big Bands back to life! Reaching back 100 years and more, this exuberant ensemble of French young musicians re-creates the original sounds of Abe Schwartz, Harry Kandel and V. Belf with uncanny faithfulness and incredible passion.
At the beginning of the 20th century, klezmer musicians came to America along with millions of other Yiddish-speaking Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. In the New World, their music took on a new energy; in recordings, radio and live concerts, they looked both to an uncertain but hopeful future and longed for the familiar ways of the Old World.
The Beigale Orkestra dives into this pivotal moment in history and re-emerges today with unforgettable, touching and joyful music that transcends time and place.
