This up-and-coming duo weaves together traditional klezmer music with folk music from Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Serbia. New York-based Aqua is also a founding member of Tsibele, a 5-woman klezmer ensemble that released its debut album “In droysn iz fintster/It’s Dark Outside” in Sept 2017. Kaufmann lives in New Orleans, LA and plays a Serbian-style button accordion. Together, the duo has traveled throughout Serbia, Hungary and Transylvania to learn from masters and absorb traditions that are “first cousins” of klezmer music.
Line-up:
Zoë Aqua (USA) - violin
Matthias Kaufmann (USA) - accordion
