Sveta Kundish’s stages of life and her studies have taken her through a dizzying variety of musical worlds: Russian, Ukrainian, Israeli and Yiddish folk popular and art song, Sephardic song, German folk and art song and opera. In 2018, she was ordained as a cantor, one of the most promising of her generation.
In this special program with pianist/accordionist and Yiddish Summer Weimar Artistic Director, Alan Bern, the duo performs original interpretations of khazones (cantorial music), rare Hasidic nigunim and Yiddish folk songs, as well as the first public performance for solo voice of Bern’s original song cycle based on Kadya Molodowsky’s poems for children. Soulful and playful music-making at its finest!
